Therefore, it is important to be able to get to the source of the problem and return your sleep back to normal as soon as possible so that it doesn’t affect your life in a big way. Many people tend to toss and turn in the night due to small things such as having things on their mind or being too hot/cold. However, when does this become an actual problem and not just a “long night”? However, if it lasts longer than 4-5 days then the chances are you have an underlying sleep issue that needs to be resolved before you will get a good night’s sleep again.

Diagnosing a sleep problem can be a very difficult issue to combat head on as a lot of people simply have no idea what the issue is and need advice to find out. It could be something such as an external noise, your bedroom being too bright or that your beds to hard to be able to reach a proper state of relaxation. These are all problems you yourself can fix and when you realise these issues are at fault they become minor issues. These can usually be corrected by a few alterations to your bedroom or home or lifestyle to be able to block them out or prevent them disturbing you.

Then there is the larger external problems, these problems consist of things such as a neighbour’s dog making too much noise, your partner snoring or your bed being extremely worn or broke. These issues are usually a little more expensive or difficult to be able to fix but once they have been you will get a large sense of relief. You can do things such as send your partner to a GP to be able to try find something to remedy the snoring or try to speak to your neighbour to be able to ask them to keep their pet quiet.

Finally, there are the more serious issues with your sleep, which could be related to things such as insomnia, sleep apnoea or other underlying medical issues with your sleep. It is important to consult your GP right away if you believe this could be the case as they can aid you in getting back on track to a good night’s sleep. The doctor can also usually prescribe some forms of medication to help you get to sleep in the night.
